Is The African Mango The Real “Magic Fruit” For Losing Weight?
African Mango has made quite a buzz in the industry of dietary products for the last several years, specifically due to the two recent experiments that were conducted in 2005 and 2008. But first, what exactly does it do and how does it go about eliminating excess body weight and body fat?
As the name implies, the main active ingredient is African mango, or to be more precise, Irvingia gabonensis seeds. It is a rare fruit found in Cameroon of Western Africa. So is it for real? Or is it just another “miracle fruit” that seem to pop out of nowhere every few years but have no redeeming characteristics at all?
In order to remove any doubts as to the effectiveness of the African Mango, it only makes sense that the aforementioned experiments be discussed in more detail.
African Mango Case Study
In the 2005 study, 40 subjects underwent a double blind study where 28 subjects were made to receive the extract 3 times a day while the remaining ones received a placebo. After 30 days, the group where the extract was administered lost over 5% of their body weight while the other lost 1.37%.
In 2008, a similar experiment was held, but this time involving 102 subjects. They were randomly divided into two groups – the Test Group and the Placebo Test Group. 150 mg of dosage were administered before lunch and dinner to both groups (with the AFMT group receiving real extracts and the PT group receiving the placebo). Results were tallied at the 4th, 8th and the 10th weeks. The final tally concluded that an average of 28.1 pounds was lost by the Test Group while the Placebo Test Group lost only an average of 1.5 pounds.
